Training on Disability Awareness
This training exercise will give participants a “taste” of being in a world where everyone has a hearing loss and hearing people become the minority. Participants will rotate through different stations that simulate disaster medical operation settings where staff from the North Carolina Division of Services for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) will communicate the way Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing (hereafter hearing loss) individuals experience in everyday life. After the exercise and hot wash, CERT will strengthen skills and awareness in effective communication tools with individuals who have hearing loss.
